Person found dead at scene of fire on Lyell Avenue

Rochester, N.Y. — An investigation is underway after a person was found dead Friday night at the scene of a fire on the city’s west side.

A report of a person trapped in a fire at a three-story boarding home on Lyell Avenue near Cameron Street came in around 7 p.m., according to Lt. Jackie Sierra of the Rochester Fire Department. Crews arrived on scene roughly 1 1/2 minutes later and found heavy black smoke coming from the wood-frame structure.

Several people were inside at the time of the fire, but no other injuries were reported, Sierra said. The fire was placed under control after roughly 20 minutes…
