After an intense start, flu activity drops sharply across New York

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Monroe County reported 363 confirmed flu cases in the week ending Jan. 17, according to newly released state data — a figure that remains one of the higher weekly totals in upstate New York, even as overall flu activity continues to decline statewide.

Across New York, health officials documented 12,049 cases for the same week, reflecting a 47% drop from the previous reporting period. The slowdown follows several consecutive weeks of decreasing flu activity, though the state has already recorded 323,673 total cases during the 2025–2026 season.

Within Western New York, Monroe County’s numbers were higher than most surrounding counties. Weekly totals included:

  • Ontario County: 76 cases
  • Wayne County: 27 cases
  • Livingston County: 23 cases
