Rochester gun industry lawsuit moves forward after two-year pause

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — The City of Rochester is moving ahead with its lawsuit targeting several major gun manufacturers, following a two-year pause in the case.

In an email Friday, the city confirmed the Evans administration is renewing its legal effort, which seeks damages from gun companies the city alleges contributed to gun violence in the community.

“The City of Rochester remains committed to seeing through our lawsuit pursuing damages from the gun industry for their role in fueling gun violence in our community.” The city said in a statement. “Addressing gun violence is a top priority of the Evans administration, and the effort requires a multitude of strategies. This is just one tactic we are using to eradicate gun violence in Rochester.”

The renewed action comes after the law firm Napoli Shkolnik filed an amended complaint on behalf of the city earlier Friday.
