Man sentenced to 9 years for June 2025 crash that injured RPD officer

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A man has been sentenced after violating an order of protection and crashing into a Rochester Police Department vehicle.

On June 15, 2025, 25-year-old Markel Taylor is said by police to have violated an order of protection against him when he struck and threatened to kill a woman during a dispute. Officers later found Taylor had left the scene after the incident and went to a home on 3rd Street in Rochester. However, when officers arrived, Taylor was not there.

He eventually returned to the area and was observed speeding by police. As an officer attempted to reverse and back away from Taylor’s oncoming vehicle, Taylor struck the officer’s vehicle head-on. The crash resulted in the officer being hospitalized for a “significant head injury.”…
