Greece moves to rein in lucrative manager payouts amid backlash

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Greece Town Supervisor Jeff McCann is moving to eliminate a set of management‑level perks that he says have cost Greece taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars and undermined trust in local government.

The proposal, which goes before the Town Board on Feb. 19, targets a series of policy changes made in 2022 and reaffirmed in 2024 that allowed senior administrators to cash out unused sick time at retirement — a benefit not extended to other town employees in Greece or in other Monroe County municipalities.

According to town records, three managers who retired at the end of 2025 collected more than $347,000 in combined payouts for unused time. Roughly $240,000 of that total came from sick‑leave conversions, a practice McCann says he didn’t know existed until taking office in January…
