According to WXXI, crime in Rochester has decreased. There were 36 homicides in 2025 compared to the 47 in 2024. Shootings – both fatal and non-fatal – were also down. In 2024, there were 30 deaths attributed to gun violence and 176 non-fatal shootings compared to 24-gun violence deaths in 2025, and 138 non-deadly shooting incidents. Even though there was a decrease, any lives lost to gun violence is too many!
