GATES, N.Y. — A Gates woman experienced heartbreak after discovering her birthday gift card had been drained before she could use it. Wendy Oehler received a physical Visa gift card from her daughter in Florida, sent through Amazon, but the funds were spent by someone else minutes after activation.
“I tried to use it online it didn’t go through but I’m being naive thinking maybe it’s just because it’s a Visa card,” Oehler said.
The next day, Oehler attempted to use the card at Tim Hortons, only to find it had just eight cents left. “I tried to go through the transactions. They said on my birthday, while it was in my wallet, somebody had ordered something from Washington for $99.92,” she said…
