Vigil to remember lives lost to federal agency violence

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – A community protest and vigil was held Sunday afternoon in Canandaigua to honor those who have lost their lives to violence involving ICE, Customs and Border Protection, and other federal agencies. The peaceful protest is an effort to resist the normalization of such encounters.

Organizers say the demonstration includes a candlelight vigil and the reading of a list of names of those who’ve been impacted. Those who attended were encouraged to lie down or remain still in their chair, walker, or standing, and to remain motionless for 36 minutes, one minute for each name.

The demonstration was held, “to remember those who have lost their lives and those who mourn them, and to unite in an act of resistance and courage against the normalization of the actions or inactions of these agencies and the federal government,” organizers said…
