New DMV point system officially in effect, enforcing tougher driving penalties

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The state’s Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) implemented a new point system that started Monday, altering how violations affect drivers’ licenses.

The biggest change is that now it’s possible to have your license suspended if you rack up ten points within 24 months.
