Contamination stalls $60M Newark housing project

Toxic chemicals have slowed a $60 million housing conversion in Newark, according to the Finger Lakes Times. Officials found chlorinated volatile organic compounds in soil, vapor and groundwater at the former industrial site slated to become Coventry Commons.

Developers had aimed to finish the 101-unit affordable housing project by late summer. Mayor Jonathan Taylor now expects work to wrap up toward the end of the year as crews address the contamination.
