Popular bakery to close in Fairport

Alter Ego Eatery, a popular gluten-free bakery and cafe in the Village of Fairport, will close its doors at the end of March.

The shop next to the Quicklee’s gas station at 146 N. Main St. will have its last day of full-service operation (kitchen, coffee, retail and pastries) on March 29. It will also open from 3 to 7 p.m. March 30 to sell the remainder of its retail items, baked goods and coffee.

Owner Kayla Sandoval opened Alter Ego Eatery in 2024. Since then, she estimates the shop has baked more than 4,000 cream puffs, more than 3,000 cinnamon buns, almost 9,000 scones and almost 4,000 bagels. She chose the name because while none of her breads and baked goods contain gluten, they could pass for conventional products made with wheat…
