First Alert Weather In-Depth: Storms bring multiple hazards, flooding tops the list

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – It seems that each day brings a new weather concern to focus on. Today, the primary issue is flooding due to heavy rainfall. As a result, a flood watch has been issued for much of Western New York.

While today’s storms may produce multiple hazards—including lightning, strong winds, and hail—heavy rainfall remains the most significant threat. The potential for excessive precipitation in a short period of time raises concerns about rising water levels and localized flooding.

With this in mind, News10NBC First Alert meteorologists will be closely monitoring area tributaries, including the Canandaigua Outlet, Allen Creek, Irondequoit Creek, Oatka Creek, Salmon Creek, and the Genesee River. Although the Genesee is a controlled waterway and rarely floods, it is still worth observing under these conditions.
