Town of Greece overspent last year’s budget by $5 million, new supervisor says

GREECE, N.Y. — The Town of Greece’s budget problems may have been worse than first reported.

Town Supervisor Jeff McCann’s office said Friday that the last administration overspent last year’s budget by $5 million. McCann also said there was nearly $1 million in unbudgeted legal expenses due to lawsuits the town has been fending off.

“I have been alarmed by the lack of transparency in the Town’s budget process – from the unavailability of public financial documents to the Town Board voting on budgets without any detail,” McCann said in a press release…
