Upstate NY man who attacked kitten on Christmas Day will spend 6 months in prison

An Upstate New York man was sentenced on Tuesday to six months in jail after pleading guilty to aggravated animal cruelty and other charges, according to the Ontario County District Attorney’s Office.

Keaghn Picaro, 30, of Farmington, struck a five-month-old domestic shorthair kitten named Smokey multiple times on Christmas Day 2025 because it failed to use a litter box. Deputies found the animal with a fractured hind leg when responding to a domestic-related altercation in Picaro’s room at the Finger Lakes Hotel.
