Fairport brewery owner warns village is growing ‘beyond sustainability,’ petitions State Liquor Authority

FAIRPORT, N.Y. — A brewery owner in Fairport is speaking out after a fight broke out in the village early Saturday morning after the bars closed.

News10NBC’s Declan Stablow spoke to Matthias West, owner of Faircraft Brauhaus, who said he’s worried North Main Street in Fairport is becoming too much like Bourbon Street in New Orleans and that safety needs to be a priority.

The fight broke out around 2 a.m., and the man, Brandon Scott, seen kicking a man on the ground and punching a woman is facing assault charges.

West thinks there are too many liquor licenses in the village, and if safety isn’t a priority, more scenes like this could happen. He said responsibility falls on those involved but also on businesses to make sure customers aren’t overserved.

West said he and some of the other nearby bars have filed a petition with the State Liquor Authority, saying there are too many liquor licenses in the area…
