ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Rockford residents gathered Monday morning to honor the nation’s fallen heroes during the community’s annual Memorial Day parade. Crowds lined the streets in their red, white, and blue as veterans, local responders, and other community groups paraded through downtown Rockford.
For local veterans like American Legion Jefferson-Horton Post 340 Commander Ray Richmond, seeing the community come out together in remembrance is special.
“It’s a beautiful thing when the city comes together in any fashion. But knowing that it was for Memorial Day, for the troops, for our soldiers and sailors and airmen who have given their lives is so humbling to just be surrounded by such love,” he said. Family members of those who’ve lost a service member like Latasha Prunty echo that sentiment. “I love to see the community get together like that. It’s it’s it’s truly a great feeling that everybody can come together and participate in this.”…
