ROCKFORD — The pay for Winnebago County Board members will more than double under a new salary plan that also provides six countywide elected positions with a double-digit percentage increase in compensation.
Winnebago County Board members voted 15-4 on Thursday to establish the new salaries, which go into effect Dec. 1 for the next elected treasurer, county clerk and circuit clerk. The new salary begins in December 2028 for chairman, coroner, auditor and Winnebago County Board members.
“In the last 10 years, these elected officials have effectively only received the minimum cost-of-living raises,” said County Board member Ray Thompson of Roscoe, who represents District 3. “For some of them, their staff make more than them.”…
