ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – For many in the Greater Rockford Italian American Association, the love of food started right in their grandfather’s, or Nonno’s, garden.
From 11a.m. to 12:30p.m., Saturday, June 6, learn to grow Nonno’s garden favorites at 4601 W. State Street in Rockford.
The GRIAA partners with Didier’s Greenhouses to invite the public to learn practical tips and techniques to grow your own garden with the help of discussion and demonstrations. From pruning to tending, you’ll learn to grow tomatoes, peppers, eggplant and cuccuzza along with herbs basil and oregano.
To make the workshop even sweet, the GRIAA says June 6 falls on Customer Appreciation weekend and there will be discounted prices on several items including the plants that will be discussed.
Bea Ricotta with the GRIAA says what makes this the perfect way to carry on tradition is that you’ll learn to raise vegetables to serve in Nonna’s old recipes…
