Cause of death for Harlem-Roscoe firefighter released

WINNEBAGO COUNTY, Ill. (WIFR) – A convoy of emergency response vehicles gathered in downtown Rockford Tuesday in honor of Harlem-Roscoe Fire Department firefighter and paramedic John Morgan.

Morgan, 53, of Caledonia, died May 31 of natural causes while working a shift at Harlem-Roscoe Fire Station #3 in Roscoe, according to the Winnebago County Coroner’s Office.

Several roads were shut down Tuesday morning as a procession escorted Morgan to a nearby funeral home from the coroner’s office.

“Throughout his career, John earned the respect and admiration of his fellow firefighters, paramedics, law enforcement partners, and the countless residents whose lives he touched. Whether responding to fires, medical emergencies, rescues, or community events, he approached every assignment with courage, humility, and a servant’s heart,” the Harlem-Roscoe Fire Protection District said in a news release about Morgan’s death…
