Organizers say the donation drive and packing event is a way to commemorate America’s 250th anniversary by “celebrating through service.”

Collecting donations

Community members are encouraged to donate any of the following items by June 30:

  • Lip balm
  • Deodorant
  • Individual tissue packets
  • Travel-size lotion
  • White socks (ankle or crew)
  • Granola bars
  • Packs of gum

Donations can be dropped off between 8 and 2 p.m. Monday through Friday at Carpenter’s Place, 1149 Railroad Ave. in Rockford.

Packing the boxes

Once donations have been collected, a special pack-as-you-go volunteer station will be set up at Rockford City Market.

During the packing event, planned for 4-7 p.m. Friday, July 10, volunteers can stop by, pack care boxes for as long as they are able to and then continue enjoying the market. Volunteers of all ages are welcome…
