Downtown walk-through highlights recent improvements in Freeport

Members of the Greater Freeport Partnership recently conducted a downtown walk-through to identify areas for improvement and success.

According to an update from Main Street Manager Katie Gentz, the group spent an hour walking through the downtown area, noting both pros and cons.

Storefront activation

One of the main topics discussed was the activation of vacant storefronts.

The group suggested partnering with building owners to use the empty spaces for pop-up vendors, artists or merchandise displays. They also recommended including QR codes in the windows to showcase work and provide contact information.

Weed maintenance

Weed maintenance was also discussed, with the group planning to follow up with the City to confirm if a weed sprayer is still on staff and, if so, to request routine weed treatment throughout the downtown area.

Highlighting success
