Rockford leaders clash over funding priorities for cannabis and casino tax dollars

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — A series of contentious votes at Monday’s Planning and Development Committee meeting revealed a growing divide among Rockford leaders over how to spend city funds, particularly as multiple proposals compete for limited cannabis and casino tax dollars.

From violence prevention programs to a mobile grocery store initiative, several items failed or stalled, not necessarily because of opposition to the ideas themselves, but over deeper disagreements about how projects should be funded and prioritized.
