ROCKFORD — After complications from an open-heart surgery forced him into a medically induced coma, Alderman Mark Bonne is back at home recovering and working to return to his City Council seat.
The 14th Ward alderman has been away from council meetings for approximately two months following surgery on April 30. After a successful replacement of an aortic valve, his body had rejected a transfusion of frozen plasma that’s used to reduce the risk of bleeding.
“That led to a cascade of other complications, one after the other. The proverbial everything that could go wrong did go wrong, until my body was in shock,” Bonne said in an interview with the Rock River Current and Rockford Register Star. “At that point the alternatives are medically induced coma or death.”…
