If you grew up in Rockford, chances are Beef-a-Roo wasn’t just somewhere you grabbed a meal. It was part of your childhood.
For me, Beef-a-Roo was THE place to go for off-campus school lunch, post-game cheddar fries, milkshakes on weekends, and you-get-to-choose dinner nights with family.
In 2021, this Rockford-founded brand was sold to a national company, and it pains me to say, things have been steadily declining since then.
Rough Year for Beef-a-Roo
There’s no easy way to say it, 2026 has been a ROUGH year for Beef-a-Roo in the Rockford area.
The year started with rumors of unpaid fundraising contributions to school and organizations in the Rockford area. In April, restaurants were shut down by the State of Illinois over licensing issues. Now in June, many Beef-a-Roo employees are reporting they haven’t received paychecks, which the owners claim is due to problems with the company that handles its payroll…
