History portrayer brings ‘Women of Independence’ speech to Beloit Public Library

BELOIT, Wis. (WMTV) – A history portrayer dressed as Uncle Sam delivered a “Women of Independence” speech at the Beloit Public Library Saturday as part of America 250 celebrations taking place across the country.

Terry Lynch and his wife, Laura, created the “Women of Independence” program for the America 250 commemorations.

Lynch portrays Uncle Sam — a personification of the United States — to tell stories of women from the American Revolution who played key roles but remain largely unknown.

“There are a lot of people who were key to us winning the revolution that you don’t know about,” Lynch said. “And I kind of highlight that by using mostly women’s names who you don’t know.”…
