Chicago Rockford airport marks 80 years of growth and jobs

The Chicago Rockford International Airport has reached its highest cargo ranking on record as it marks 80 years since the former Camp Grant property began its transformation into a commercial airport and regional transportation center.

The milestone comes as the Federal Aviation Administration ranked the airport No. 12 among 155 U.S. airports for total landed weight in 2025, according to a community announcement. RFD recorded more than 3.4 billion pounds of landed cargo during the year, a 9.21% increase from 2024.

Airport officials credited infrastructure improvements, facility investments, workforce development efforts and long-term partnerships with UPS, Amazon Air and Maersk Air Cargo for the growth.
