ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — A long-vacant Rockford church could be transformed into apartments, a restaurant and banquet hall under a redevelopment proposal moving through City Hall.
The project would redevelop the former Centennial United Methodist Church, at 219 S. 2nd Street, into a mixed-use development. The proposal was presented to the Rockford Zoning Board of Appeals on July 21 by Jennifer Spencer of the architectural firm Studio GWA.
Plans submitted to the city show the apartment portion of the project would include six two-bedroom units and four one-bedroom units. Floor plans indicate five apartments would be located on the first floor and five more on the second floor of the building…
