Rockford region’s $8.9M for industrial development includes land next to Belvidere Assembly Plant

BELVIDERE — The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity has awarded four agencies in Boone and Winnebago counties a combined $8.9 million to prepare for future industrial development.

The site readiness grants include $5 million to help Belvidere extend water main infrastructure to land directly west of the Belvidere Assembly Plant. That 258-acre plot between Town Hall and Irene roads could become a future industrial park for companies that supply parts to the automaker, Belvidere Mayor Clint Morris has said.
