ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Families stocking up on school supplies and clothing can save a little money starting Friday as Illinois’ back-to-school sales tax holiday officially gets underway.
The tax break runs from August 7 through August 16 and reduces the state’s sales tax by 5% on qualifying purchases, including clothing priced at $125 or less and certain school-related items. State officials estimate the holiday will save Illinois families about $10 million during the 10-day period.
