ROCHELLE, Ill. (WTVO) — The Rochelle community gathered to honor the life of Tyler “Smitty” Smith on what would have been his birthday.
The annual Tyler “Smitty” Smith 5K marathon took place at Rochelle’s Atwood Park on Sunday morning, with all proceeds benefiting the Tyler Smith Memorial Foundation. The event honored Smith, who died in 2018 at age 23. His family remembers him as an “avid runner” who ran 5Ks and 10Ks and a giver with a strong heart.
“Tyler was a giver; he liked to help people,” said Sandy Halsne, mother of Tyler Smith. “For us to continue his legacy by helping others means so much.”…
