Beloit movie theater owner would be interested in Janesville

BELOIT — The owner of Classic Cinemas, which now has the only operating movie theater in Rock County, said he would be interested in expanding into Janesville if the opportunity presents itself.

“We’ve been very happy with our Beloit theater,” said Chris Johnson, who started with the Downers Grove-based Classic Cinemas as an usher in 1980 and is now the company owner. Classic Cinemas bought the former Schubert’s Luxury 10 Theater in Beloit in November 2019.

Classic Cinemas was started in 1978 and has grown slowly over the years. It now operates 16 theaters in 15 cities. The Beloit theater currently is its only location in Wisconsin…
