Winnebago County Coroner identifies inmate who died after medical emergency

WINNEBAGO COUNTY, Ill (WTVO) — The Winnebago County Coroner’s Office has identified the inmate who died Sunday after being transported from the Winnebago County Jail.

Investigators said that at around 2 a.m., an inmate at the Winnebago County Jail activated the emergency call button and notified correctional officers that his cellmate, 56-year-old Cedric Johnson, was experiencing a seizure.

Officials said correctional officers responded and initiated life-saving measures. EMS personnel continued resuscitative efforts before Johnson was taken to a local hospital…
