ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Cheap Trick guitarist Rick Nielsen is selling a piece of Rockford rock history, from guitars he played onstage to clothing, handwritten notes and a checkerboard-painted tractor.
Julien’s Auctions will offer 307 lots from Nielsen’s personal collection on Oct. 24. The sale includes more than 70 guitars, two vehicles and memorabilia spanning his decades with Cheap Trick and the bands that came before it. A portion of the proceeds will benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
In a video released by the auction house, Nielsen gave a simple answer when asked why he began collecting guitars: “Because cars were too expensive.”…
