The American Red Cross assisted 42 people affected by 10 home fires in Milan, Moline, Silvis, Buda, Sterling, Rockford and Machesney Park during September.
The organization provided emergency financial assistance, food, relief supplies such as toiletries, health and mental health services and individualized support for connecting residents with recovery resources, according to a community announcement.
The Red Cross encouraged residents to review home fire safety information and prepare emergency plans before a fire occurs.
