Home of Rockford Peaches receives $400,000 for renovations

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — For years now, work has been underway to bring the former home of the Rockford Peaches back to life.

Now, the city of Rockford is making a major investment. $400,000 of COVID-19 relief money will be used to rehabilitate Beyer Stadium.

Tons of fans showed out at the U.S. Women’s national Baseball Team’s exhibition game at the stadium back in August. That support showed International Women’s Baseball Center President Kat Williams that the field is capable of hosting high school, college and international tournaments.

Or even a World Cup game in the future.

But first, Williams says the stadium needs to be improved. “We need a scoreboard. We need additional bleachers. We need bathrooms. There are no bathrooms,” Williams said. “You know, there are things like a score table, eventually lights, you know, all kinds of things like that.”

The $400,000 from Rockford will kick start renovations, but Williams says other plans are in the works as well.
