Rockford, Ill. man arrested after pursuit in Columbia, Dodge counties

BEAVER DAM, Wis. — Columbia County and Dodge County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a man Tuesday who they said led them on a chase with speeds reaching 100 mph.

Officials said a Columbia County Sheriff’s deputy tried to stop Mario Gonzalez, 19, of Rockford, Ill., at around 11:40 p.m. on Highway 151 at mile marker 117 for a speeding violation. Gonzalez initially pulled over then allegedly sped away.

The deputy followed Gonzalez, who allegedly threw items from his vehicle during the pursuit. The chase continued north on Highway 151 and crossed into Dodge County.

A Dodge County Sheriff’s deputy used a tire deflation device near the intersection of Highway 151 and Highway 33. After that, officials said Gonzalez gave up and was taken into custody.

Online court records show he is charged with fleeing an officer and possession of cocaine. during an initial appearance on Wednesday, his cash bond was set a $1,000.
