BELOIT — For head coach Daryl McCabe and his Hononegah boys swimming team, Saturday’s “Battle on the Rock” was just the challenge they were looking for heading into the latter stages of the season.
“A great facility, some difficult competition and it’s right down the street basically,” McCabe said. “It’s the perfect meet for us at this time of the season. We have the conference meet coming up and sectionals after that. We get to see a couple of solid teams here we don’t normally get to see, like Beloit. It’s always a good battle with them, hence the name of the meet.”
The Indians made certain it was a good springboard by rolling up 388 points and winning the 10-team meet hosted by Beloit Memorial at its Richard Vogel Natatorium.
Hononegah claimed seven first places, including both the 200-yard medley relay and the 200 freestyle relay. The Indians’ 200 medley relay of Owen West, Vito Skominas, Cale Miles and Reeve Franklin won in 1:42.99 while the 200 free relay of West, Skominas, Bryson Beck and Franklin won in 1:32.39.
