Trio of returning regional champs lead 9 Rockford-area girls into wrestling sectionals

Nine of the Rockford area’s top high school girls wrestlers took the first step to getting to state as the weekend’s regionals will lead into the upcoming sectionals.

The top six girls from each weight class advanced to sectionals from Friday’s regionals. Sectionals will be held on Feb. 9-10, and once there, the top three from each weight class makes it to state.

Led by three defending champions who easily became regional champs again, the Rockford area will be represented by the nine females at sectionals. There will be four from Freeport alone. Here is a breakdown of how they all did at regionals, and what’s next:

Freeport’s Cadence Diduch (1st place)

Diduch is ranked fourth in the nation at her weight class, according to the latest rankings on Flo Wrestling and flowrestling.com, which is the highest ranking for any of the current Rockford-area females. She is a two-time IHSA state champion already, and she was the area’s only USA Wrestling national champion last summer in Fargo, North Dakota.
