Police: Rockford man attempted to murder his pregnant girlfriend

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Corzhaunne Simon, 30, beat and then held his pregnant girlfriend at knifepoint after an argument early Thursday morning, according to police.

Rockford Police, officers met a 6-week pregnant woman at Swedish American Hospital at 6 p.m. on February 1st, after she said fled her residence in the 3000 block of Lund Avenue.

According to court documents, the victim said the pair got into an argument around 1 a.m. and Simon punched her 10-15 times in the face and choked her unconscious.

Simon proceeded to break her phone in an attempt to stop her from calling the police, she said.

The victim said Simon later held a kitchen knife to her throat and demanded that she call in sick to work.

Court records show that later that day, Simon became intoxicated and fell asleep, and the victim hid the knife and left her residence.

Later, the woman asked authorities if they could verify Simon had left the residence since she had an active restraining order against him. A key she provided to them did not work, police said, so officers had to open the door by force.
