Rockford fugitive captured in high-speed Ogle County chase

POLO, Ill. (WTVO) — Police have arrested a Rockford fugitive from justice after a high-speed pursuit with Ogle County Deputies early Friday morning.

According to the Ogle County Sheriff’s Department, deputies spotted a suspicious vehicle around 1:21 a.m. in the 3000 block of South Lowell Park Road.

Authorities described the vehicle as a black Chevy HHR SUV that had previously been reported to have fled from both the Illinois State Police in Whiteside County and the Dixon Police Department in Lee County.

After a pursuit that went at least 35 miles per hour over the speed limit, the driver of the Chevy, identified as Adan Trujillo, 37, of Park Forest, lost control of the vehicle and drove into a ditch.

The passenger, who was identified as Demarious Shakur Gamill, 27, of Rockford, was arrested for an outstanding warrant, for failure to appear at court proceedings in September 2022 for a 2015 residential burglary charge. He was booked into the Ogle County Jail.

Trujillo was taken to a hospital in Mount Morris for minor injuries and was cited for driving under the influence of alcohol and an intoxicating compound, no registration light, improper traffic lane usage, and speeding 35 mph over the speed limit. He was also given a notice to appear in court for possession of a controlled substance and fleeing to elude.
