MACHENSEY PARK, Ill. (WTVO) — Pig Minds Brewing Company is one of 20 brewpubs in America nominated in USA Today’s 10 best readers’ choice awards.
Staff said it is the unique options that make them stand out from the competition.
Executive Chef Trisha Coughlin said the food and brews are not exactly what you would find at a typical restaurant and brewery.
“the most unique thing about Pig Minds here is that we’re the first vegan brewery in the U.S.,” said Coughlin. “We have an endless selection of beer that’s ever-changing and all of our menu is plant-based.”
The menu has put Pig Minds in a select crowd of brewpubs nationwide vying for a readers’ choice award. Everything listed on it is vegan, even the beer.
“Yep. Everything that we serve here. A lot of people don’t realize that most beer is not vegan. There are aspects in the beer like stabilizers and different natural flavorings that cause beer to not just naturally be vegan.” said Coughlin.
Coughlin said they are confident that they can stand against any competition.
