The Rockford School District has decided to use emergency days instead of e-learning for all RPS 205 students for the remainder of the 23/24 academic year. This decision was made due to difficulties faced by younger students during the pandemic. Superintendent Dr. Ehren Jarrett pointed out two main problems: supplying necessary devices for the students and ensuring fair wi-fi access at home.
The district has created an e-learning task force, made up of teachers, principals, and administrators, to tackle these issues. Dr. Jarrett stressed that the district is not against e-learning, but is working to implement it properly.
Meanwhile, the school district is exploring various short-term strategies. These include flexible days, changes to the academic calendar, and other alternative plans.
Dr. Jarrett repeated that the district’s main concern is always the students’ well-being and education. He asked for patience, understanding, and support from the community as the district seeks the best solution.
