Driver killed in 100 mph Janesville crash, police say

JANESVILLE, Wis. (WTVO) — Janesville Police say a driver is dead after speeding away from officers at 100 mph and losing control of the vehicle.

According to police, a patrol officer noticed a Buick LeSabre sitting at a flashing red light sitting motionless at a flashing red light signal on E. Centerway Street around 2:41 a.m. and turned around to get behind the vehicle.

Before the officer could, police said the vehicle took off at high speed toward Milton Avenue. The officer followed but lost the vehicle after the driver turned onto Milton.

Other Janesville officers, who were investigating a drunk driving incident at Refset Drive and Milton, said they saw the vehicle headed northbound at 100 mph and fishtailing.

Other officers in the area searched the area and found the vehicle had crashed near the I-90 overpass, police said.

The driver was thrown from the car during the crash and was killed, according to authorities.

The victim’s name will be released at a later date, police said, adding that alcohol was believed to be a factor in the crash.
