Authorities identify pedestrian hit, killed by a car in Rockford

A 53-year-old woman died early Tuesday after being struck by a vehicle.

Malissa Bond was pronounced dead at 3:15 a.m. at a Rockford hospital.

A preliminary investigation revealed Bond was walking at 6:55 p.m. Monday along the roadway at Auburn Street and Irving Avenue when she was hit by a car.

Rockford firefighters and police officers responded to the scene and found Bond unresponsive. She was taken to a Rockford hospital where she died the next day.

An autopsy revealed Bond died from multiple blunt trauma due to the motor vehicle-pedestrian crash.

Authorities said the driver of the vehicle fled the scene, and there is no vehicle description at this time.

Police are still investigating.
