Disney’s “Moana 2,” scheduled for release in November, will have some hometown ties.
Rockford’s Emily Bear posted the following Wednesday on social media:
“I’m literally shaking writing this but for the last TWO years, Abigail and I have secretly been living a songwriters dream, WRITING ALL THE NEW SONGS FOR MOANA 2……… this has literally been the hardest thing to keep secret but I am SO SO beyond excited to finally be able to start sharing this journey with you all. The adventure of our favorite wayfinder continues and it’s better than ever.”
“Moana 2” is being directed by Dave Derrick Jr. and will feature music by Emily Bear, Abigail Barlow, Mark Mancina and Opetaia Foa’i.
This is not the first time Bear and Barlow have collaborated. The two previously teamed up on “The Unofficial Bridgerton Musical,” which won a 2022 Grammy Award for best musical theater album.
“The Unofficial Bridgerton Musical” began as a viral TikTok at the beginning of 2021 with Barlow asking viewers to imagine what if Netflix hit “Bridgerton’ would be like as a musical.
