Freeport police find ‘ghost gun’ in drug bust

FREEPORT, Ill. (WTVO) — Freeport Police have arrested Austin Howard, 25, on weapons and drug charges after they searched his house in an investigation on Saturday.

According to police, Howard’s residence, on W. Block Road, was the subject of a search warrant on Saturday, February 10th.

Investigators said they found a 9mm Polymer 80 gun with a high-capacity drum magazine and ammunition. Polymer 80 is a company that sells unfinished pistol frames.

Police also found marijuana that was “packaged for sale to another person.”

Howard was charged with Possession of a Firearm without a Firearm Owner’s Identification, Possession with Intent to Deliver Cannabis, and Unlawful Possession of Cannabis.

He was booked into the Stephenson County Jail awaiting a pretrial detention hearing.
