Rockford residents to receive new garbage cans soon. Find out when you’ll get yours:

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — The City of Rockford says residents will begin receiving two new garbage and recycling cans starting in the next few weeks.

According to the city, the new plastic totes will be delivered to residents beginning Monday, February 26th, and deliveries could take up to 12 weeks.

Residents will receive postcards about the arrival a couple of weeks before they can expect delivery, the City said.

The new carts must be used for recycling and garbage moving forward.

The City said residents can keep their old cans or leave them with a note to be collected on trash day.

If trash exceeds the capacity of the provided cans, they can put out an additional can of no more than 32 gallons with a secure lid, weighing less than 50 lbs.

If a cart needs to be replaced, Rock River Disposal can be notified to bring a replacement, the City said.

The new garbage and recycling cans will not be used for yard waste collection, which remains the same.
