Janesville felon sentenced to 7 years in prison for guns found during drug raid

MADISON, Ill. (WTVO) — Kyle Richards, 35, of Janesville, was sentenced to spend 7 years in federal prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm at the time of his arrest in May 2023.

According to police, Richards used and maintained an apartment in Janesville in April and May to distribute and use cocaine.

As part of a narcotics investigation, police raided Richards’ apartment on May 4th, 2023 and found cocaine, drug scales, and tools for cooking crack cocaine.

Inside a bathroom closet, investigators found four guns.

Because of several prior felony convictions, Richards is legally prohibited from owning or possessing a firearm.

He pleaded guilty to the charge on January 18th, 2024.

In addition to his prison sentence, Richards was ordered to complete three years of supervised release.
