Ukrainian teens to spend time in Rockford after the deaths of their fathers

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — 10 Ukrainian teens are coming to Rockford to get away from the horrors of everyday life.

The group is from the city’s sister city, Brovary. Brovary became a sister city in 1995 after a visiting soccer team from Kyiv suggested a sister city arrangement with Brovary, a Kyiv suburb, according to GoRockford .

Two years ago, when Russia invaded Ukraine, a group of teens were invited to Rockford to get away from the tragic realities happening in their home country.

Each one of the teens has lost a father fighting against Russia.

They will spend nine days visiting different attractions around the city.
