HANOVER, Ill. (WTVO) — A Galena man was airlifted to a Rockford hospital on Saturday after police said he crashed his Harley Davidson motorcycle while driving drunk.
According to the Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Office, Matthew Steele, 30, of Galena, was driving north on S. Blanding Road around 6:58 p.m. when he lost control of the bike while negotiating a curve.
Steele was pinned beneath the motorcycle when it came to rest on top of him.
Members of the Elizabeth EMS and Hanover Fire Department treated him at the scene before he was evacuated by helicopter to OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford for treatment.
His current condition is unknown.
Police cited Steele for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, operating a vehicle with expired registration, and driving under the influence of alcohol.
